At Pet Grooming Studio Academy, we are committed to training highly qualified professionals through structured and practical grooming education. The mission of our Dog Grooming School in Toronto is to help students to turn their passion for animals into a rewarding career in the animal grooming industry. We emphasize learning actual grooming techniques, handling techniques, and professional standards to prepare students to work in real-life grooming environments.
Our goal is to bridge the gap between being taught how to groom and doing so at a professional level so that the student has gained practical experience, expert instruction, and the self-assurance needed to work in modern grooming settings.
Who We Are
Pet Grooming Studio Academy is run by professionals with extensive experience in the grooming industry who know today’s grooming salons and pet businesses
Our academy has been established by Minnie Kusanagi, who has 25 years of experience working in the salon industry (including 5 years of experience working in Tokyo, Japan, and more than 20 years running a successful pet salon in Canada), to create an academy that combines the precision and style of Japanese grooming with the standard of grooming found throughout the North American industry.
As a premier Dog Grooming School in Toronto, we believe that students pursuing a career in grooming need to have an education that encompasses more than just theory; they need practical training that will enable them to start their new career with competence and confidence on their very first day of work.
Our Teaching Philosophy
The act of grooming a pet is more than just making your pet look nice; it involves safety, being able to trust the groomer, patience, cleanliness, and grooming skill. Our educational philosophy focuses on developing responsible groomers who believe in the importance of caring for animals, as well as creating a positive experience for the animals that they are grooming.
Students will learn:
- How to handle pets safely and with minimal stress to them
- How to identify different coat types and their specific grooming needs
- How to properly use grooming tools and equipment
- A step-by-step guide to grooming methods used in professional grooming salons
- How to maintain safety and cleanliness during the grooming process
Students will master all the above-mentioned skills through repeated practice with instructor guidance.
Career-Focused Professional Training
It is our belief that grooming skills are developed through hands-on experience. Throughout your training, you will work with various dog breeds, coat types, and styles of grooming. All this experience will prepare you to be calm and polished when faced with different types of grooming situations.
As a prestigious Dog Grooming School in Toronto, we provide the same atmosphere as a real dog grooming shop to help students transition into the professional world once they have graduated from their program.
One-on-One Support & Instruction
With regard to our class sizes, you will benefit from individualized support from the instructor. You’ll have the chance to see your instructor doing the actual techniques you’re being taught, plus get instructions on how to do them step by step. You will have a chance to practice those same techniques over and over again until you feel comfortable doing them.
A supportive, low-pressure learning environment allows students to progress at their own pace, without having to deal with the added stress of being rushed or overwhelmed.

Learning by Doing
Students participate in an experiential learning environment and will have access to real-world grooming experience throughout their training program. Live dogs will be used, and the students’ practice will be supervised by skilled professionals so they will learn to develop precision and patience, as well as the technical skills to groom dogs with control in a safe manner.
Career College Pet Grooming Studio Academy operates legally in the Province of Ontario. Under the Ontario Career Colleges Act (2005), this is via offering learned and certified education for all students during their Training.
